Cereals 2022: Brock builds monster prototype cultivator

The hefty looking Super Disc 850Dt from Essex firm J Brock and Sons combines discs, tines, levelling paddles and a twin packer to give multiple options for shallow cultivation.

The 18t rig requires about 450hp to pull and can be used for primary or secondary operations in a range of conditions at depths of 50mm to 150mm.

The main soil movers are a twin row of 600mm scalloped discs, interspersed with rows of straight-leg tines. However, Brock has designed the frame to be customisable, so the disc units can be removed and replaced with additional legs if required.

At the rear, a set of levelling paddles knocks clods into submission, before a twin 700mm Cultipress-style packer finishes the surface.

Depth is adjusted on the packer and front levelling wheels, and there’s a parallel linkage down the main beam to keep the machine level. Huge 850/50 R30.5 transport wheels support it when turning on headlands and when moving between fields.

The rig is built at the firm’s factory in Thaxted, Essex, and prices for the model pictured are just north of £100,000.
