Original Land Rover Defender gets Bowler Extreme treatment

Land Rover tuning specialist Bowler has unveiled a new Extreme conversion for the original Defender that features more power, better handling and a host of performance add-ons.

Central to the Bowler Extreme is the company’s Fast Road kit that uses a modified ECU and race intercooler to provide increased horsepower and torque of 175hp and 450Nm.

Countering that additional performance is a Bowler big brake kit, developed in partnership with Alcon, that features four-piston calipers and larger 334mm front and 297mm rear discs.

However, the most noticeable change is the Bowler Extreme’s stance which, with a combination of massive 35-inch BFGoodrich tyres, bead-lock performance alloys and bespoke suspension with a 2in lift, is considerably meaner than standard.

Additional features include wheel arch extensions, a lightweight Bowler front bumper, LED high-performance light package, external roll cage, rockslider steps and sill protectors.

Bowler also fits a stainless-steel bolt kit, along with billet aluminium hinges, hands and vents.

Upgrades have also been lavished on the cabin, with additional sound-deadening material, a bespoke leather or performance fabric material makeover, upgraded audio equipment, Bowler gear levers and a Momo steering wheel.

The Extreme conversions by the Belper-based group are available on 90, 110 and 130 platforms on a commission-only basis, with limited build slots available each calendar year.

The price for conversion of a customer-owned car is dependent on age and condition, and there are options for Bowler-sourced donor vehicles.
