Video: Farmer demonstrates benefits of mixed cover crops

The advantages of growing winter cover crop soon after harvest have been highlighted at a farm on the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border.

Linking Environment and Farming (Leaf) demonstration farmer Jake Freestone, from Overbury Farm, used a diverse mix of cover crop and is now reaping the benefits of enhanced fertility, soil erosion management and pest control.

In the video, Jake shows the different cover crops he has planted, including rye, fodder radish, linseed and mustard, and explains how each will help keep your soil in peak condition over winter.

He recommends drilling soon after harvest to get the most out of cover cropping.
